INAUGURATION OF ASHA KIRAN
DEADDICTION CENTER – PALYA, HASSAN
Asha Kiran meaning ‘Ray of Hope’, is the third Deaddiction Center of the
Franciscan Capuchins of Holy Trinity Province of Karnataka. On 11 August
2021 Rev Fr. John Alwyn Dias, Provincial Minister of Holy Trinity Province
Karnataka, inaugurated Asha Kiran Deaddiction and Counselling Center at
Palya, Alur Taluk of Hassan District, and dedicated it to the service of
humanity. He then explained the purpose and motive behind the center that it
was the desire of many to convert this donated land and utilise it for a
social cause for the betterment of society. Deaddiction is a universal issue
affecting mostly the poor in rural areas while counselling is need of the
hour. Hence Asha Kiran will serve its purpose not just in this region but
also far and wide. The Blessing of the center was done by Most Rev. Dr
Anthony Swamy Bishop of Chikkamagalur, and in his speech he appreciated the
friars for choosing this ministry that promotes and continues with the
healing ministry of Christ. He wished the center to be healing source to the
persons with addiction. The chief guests Rev. Fr. John Paul, Parish Priest
of Matasagara Church, Mr. K.S. Manjegowda, political leader, Mr. S.N.
Prakash, Gram Panchayat President, applauded the work begun and assured
their continued support for the institution.
Asha Kiran, is a 20 bedded, government recognised institution that caters to
the persons with alcohol addiction. The institution also provides
counselling services. The Center has sophisticated infrastructure, qualified
staff, it provides treatment, therapies and prevention practices. It
provides nutrition and rest, lessons and group dynamics, yoga and
meditation, counselling and follow up programs. Substance abuse is a
treatable disease and Asha Kiran concentrates on changing the lifestyle of
these persons, not just in deaddiction but promising a better and dignified
life in the family and society.
