EIGHT CAPUCHIN BROTHERS
ORDAINED AS DEACONS IN KENGERI, BANGALORE
Most Rev. Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop Emeritus of Bangalore ordained the
eight capuchin brothers as Deacons on 2nd July 2022 at Deena Seva Ashram,
Darshan Institute of Theology, Kengeri, Bangalore. Holy Trinity Capuchin
Province Karnataka rejoiced with these newly ordained brothers as deacons.
The diaconate was solemnized with the Holy Eucharist officiated by the same
Archbishop Emeritus, Bernard Moras. In the introduction to the Holy
Eucharist it was explained that ‘Diakonia’ means service. This service or
ministry is basically two-fold, that is, Service at the Altar and Service of
the People.
Archbishop Emeritus Bernard Moras in a meaningful way broke the word of God
and urged the brothers who were ready to be ordained as deacons, to be at
the service of the Altar and the people of God. Act of the Apostles 1:3 we
read: “Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good
repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty.
But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
Good repute is not of the world but the wisdom of God. We are not worthy
before God yet God makes us worthy. Psalmist says, “These are the men who
seek the face of God” (Psalm 23). No one can see God and live. But we are
called to see God in others. St. Francis of Assisi saw Jesus in the face of
the leper he met on his way. He urged to live the evangelical vows and serve
the Lord in every way to bring glory to the Lord and earn Kingdom of God.
Thus after the homily bishop examined the candidates, received their promise
of Celibacy and Obedience. The faithful who were gathered, joined in singing
the litany of the saints, after which the celebrant laid hands on them and
prayed the prayer of consecration. The candidate were vested with stole and
dalmatic. The book of the gospels were presented to each candidate.
Thereafter Archbishop extended kiss of peace and the liturgy of the
Eucharist continued. After the Holy Eucharist each ordained deacon was
felicitated, Provincial Minister, Rev. Fr John Alwyn Dias appreciated the
great sacrifices of their parents and family members, friends and
benefactors who witnessed the event in good number. The vote of thanks was
raised by Fr Naveen D’Souza, the Vice -Rector in the absence of Rector, Fr
Denis Veigas who was sick and hospitalized. Br Devasya, newly ordained
deacon, shared his sentiments on behalf of his companions, thanking everyone
who contributed and who were cause for the meaningful and successful
celebration. Dear newly ordained deacon brothers: Roshan, Clement, David,
Joseph. Joywin, Devasya, Praveen and Joel, as God has called you to share in
the ministry of Jesus, may you be filled with the knowledge of His love, and
open to the power and grace of the Holy Spirit. Congratulations!
