The Diocese of Kohima welcomes its new Priest, Father Thrilongchum
Hubert Sangtam, May 5, 2022
Deacon Thrilongchum Hubert Sangtam was ordained as a Priest by Most Rev.
Dr. James Thoppil, the Bishop of Kohima on May 5, 2022 at Saint Joseph
Church, Sitimi Town, making him the second Catholic Priest of the
Sangtam community. After a gap of 20 years, the Sangtam community
recorded its second Catholic Priest. The first priest to be ordained was
Rev Fr James Thsipongkiu Sangtam from Phelungre village in the year
2002. Father Hubert is the eldest among the nine children of Ikuto
Sangtam and Hozheli Sangtam. He belongs to the congregation of Order of
Friars Minor Capuchin (OFM Cap).
The ordination was attended by many Priests from the Diocese of Kohima
and from other Religious congregations, Religious Sisters, the Catholic
Association of Nagaland, the Nagaland Catholic Women Association, the
Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement, and delegates from the villages and
towns of Kiphire region. In his homily, Rev. Thoppil shared that it is
not the Bishop who makes the Priest but the Almighty God, working
through His Holy Spirit, in His Holy Catholic Church, which is the Body
of Jesus Christ. The Bishop also thanked his parents and relatives for
offering him to God and to the Church. In conclusion, he prayed that the
ordination of Deacon Thrilongchum be a blessing to the Catholics and
non-Catholic communities of Sitimi and to the Church in Nagaland.
