TIDINGS FROM ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI MISSION CENTER, NONGDAM, MANIPUR,
INDIA St. Francis of Assisi Mission center was started in the year 2016 in
the month of February. On this same day mission center was opened and
nursery Classes were begun in a bamboo shed. The two Friars (Fr. Mathias
Dias and Fr. James Furtado) stayed at Catechist quarter for two years
with minimum necessities. The new building work started in the year 2017
and completed in the year 2019. In 2020 schooling was begun at new
school building but due to Corona it was shut. In 2020 onwards the
friars began to stay in the new building. At present school is having
the strength of 350 students up to class 9. There is also a hostel both
for girls and boys with 35 students. The Catholic community numbers 40
families the friars help them to grow spiritually. The long awaited
dream of having vehicle was fulfilled through the kind help of
Provincial Minister, Rev. Fr. John Alwyn Dias. The friars of the
community remain ever grateful to him. The newly bought vehicle was
blessed on Sunday 24/04/2022 along with Fr. Roshan Pereira, Fr. Mathias
and community members. We are ever grateful to our provincial and his
team for helping us in every way. There is 19 acres of land given by the
Village authority for the Educational institution. At present various
activities are going on in full swing and it has great future. Presently
the following friars are serving and residing at St. Francis of Assisi
Mission Center, Nongdam: Fr. Mathias Dias-Superior and Principal, Fr.
Christopher Rodrigues-Vicar and Treasurer, Fr. Roshan Pereira-Hostel
Incharge and Headmaster to School, Fr. Manoj Victor D’Souza has arrived
recently. May St Francis of Assisi intercede for all of us.
