Inauguration of the Academic Year 2023-24 at Darshan Institute of Theology, Capuchin Theologate Bangalore
Darshan Institute of Theology (DITh) began its Academic Year 2023–2024 with ‘Lectio Brevis’ on June 1, 2023. As a preparation for this event, on the previous day we had the recollection talk delivered by Fr. Dr. Denis Gabriel Veigas OFM Cap., the Rector of Darshan Institute of Theology on the Apostolic Letter of Pope Francis “Desiderio Desideravi”. The inaugural day began with the Holy Eucharist at 9:00 a.m. presided over by Fr. Dr. Denis Gabriel Veigas OFM Cap., who implored God’s Blessings on everyone. All the staff members concelebrated the Holy Eucharist. We had the gracious presence of Rev. Fr. Mark OSB from Ashirvanam, the Benedictine Monastery, with whom we have a long standing collaboration.

This was followed by the Tea and Refreshments. After the tea break, the program of lectio brevis was held in the Conference Hall of the Institute. This part of the program was compered by Bro. Melroy Dsilva OFM Cap., a third year student. Fr. Dr. Denis Gabriel Veigas OFM Cap., Fr. Dr. Albert Lewis OFM Cap., the Director of the Institute, Fr. Santhosh Naveen D’souza OFM Cap., the Prefect of Theology, Fr. Anthony Raj OFM Cap., the Treasurer of the Institute, Rev. Fr. Mark OSB and Br. Zhapuvizo Sale OFM Cap., the Student representative, lit the lamp and inaugurated the program. Br. Stanis Bastanv Lopes OFM Cap., presented his dissertation paper on "Media and Communication: A Gift and Responsibility in the Church". He elaborated on the role, importance, pros and cons of Media, implications of social media and the urging need of communication for the Evangelization in the 21st Century. The Resident Professors of the Institute, along with Fr. Mark OSB and Bro. Zhapuvizo Sale OFM Cap., released the Handbook and Calendar of the New Academic Year. Fr. Dr. Albert Lewis OFM Cap., placed on record some of the precious directives and guidelines of the Institute, that are to be followed during this academic year. He also thanked all the staff, students, and visiting professors for their unstinting support in the smooth functioning and running of the Institute. Bro. Zhapuvizo Sale OFM Cap., officially welcomed the seven freshers to the 1st Year of Theology at DITh. As the most important part of the program, the professors briefed their subjects that would be dealt with during the academic year. Finally, Fr. Dr. Denis Gabriel Veigas OFM Cap., addressed everyone with his valuable suggestions and guidelines based on the Apostolic Constitution: Veritatis Gaudium. He exhorted everyone to follow the 4. Principles mentioned in this Document. 1. Contemplation of Truth 2. Wide range of Dialogue 3. Inter-disciplinary Approaches 4. Urgent Need for networking between various Institutions. He wished both the staff and students good luck and success for the upcoming academic year. The program was concluded by singing the Anthem of the Institute.
