Feast of St. Padre Pio Celebrated at St. Padre Pio Shrine, St.
Anne’s Friary, Mangalore
The Feast of St. Padre Pio was solemnly celebrated at the St. Padre
Pio Shrine, at St. Anne’s Friary, Jail Road, Mangalore, on 23rd
September. The celebration witnessed a large gathering of the
faithful who came together in prayer and devotion to honor the
beloved saint known for his deep spirituality, stigmata, and
unwavering faith.
The theme of this year’s feast was:
“St. Padre Pio: Pilgrim of the Cross, Messenger of Hope.” The solemn Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Dr.
Rajesh Rosario, Rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Jeppu, and
concelebrated by over 30 priests. The devout participation of
numerous devotees made the celebration truly grace-filled and
spiritually enriching. A special highlight was the soulful choir led
by Mr. Joe Rodrigues and the Padre Pio Choir, which enhanced the
liturgical atmosphere.
Launch of Publications and Calendar Following the Mass, three significant releases were made under
the banner of the Capuchin Publication Trust:
1. "Ten Green Commandments" – a vital work translated from English
by Fr. George D’Souza of the Chikkamagaluru Diocese, promoting
ecological awareness and responsibility from a faith-based
perspective.
2. Daily Bible – Capuchin Bible Diary 2026 – the annual spiritual
companion featuring daily Scripture readings and reflections.
3. New 2026 Calendar of the Divine Mercy Retreat Centre –
highlighting key liturgical dates and spiritual themes for the
upcoming year.
Honouring the Achievers and Donors As part of the celebration, two remarkable young women were
honoured for their outstanding achievements:
Remona Evette Pereira, a final-year BA student at St Aloysius
College, Mangaluru, was recognized for her 170-hour Bharatanatyam
performance, which earned her a place in the Golden Book of World
Records — making her the first in the world to achieve this
milestone.
Aashna Jewel D’Souza was felicitated for being crowned Miss India
Astral 2025. She will go on to represent India at Miss Universe
Celestial 2026, a proud moment for the local community.
In addition, the donors and benefactors of the feast were warmly
honoured and thanked for their generous contributions and continued
support in making the event a grand success.
Conclusion and Fellowship Fr. Jerald Lobo, Guardian of the Capuchin community at St.
Anne’s Friary, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all — clergy,
donors, volunteers, and devotees — for their involvement and support
in making the feast a meaningful celebration.
The event concluded with the serving of delicious food, fostering
fellowship and a joyful spirit of community — truly reflecting the
love and hope embodied in the life of St. Padre Pio, the Pilgrim of
the Cross and Messenger of Hope.
