The Seminar on 'Finance and Taxes' was held on 16th September, 2010 at Darshan Institute of Theology, Bangalore. The total number of Participants was 47, from different communities of the province. The Seminar began with a brief silence in tribute to late Br. Tarcy Mathias, the great missionary of our province. Thereafter, we invoked God's blessings on us all by a short prayer service led by Br. Noel D'Almeida. Br. Manoj D' Souza, introduced and welcomed the resource persons on the dais and everyone gathered for the seminar. The opening address for the seminar was given by Br. Vincent G. Furtado, the Minister Provincial, Holy Trinity province, Karnataka. This followed the sessions by various resource persons viz., Mr. Govind Jhawar, a well-known chartered accountant from Bhopal, Mr. Nilesh Banthia, Advocate from Bhopal and Br. Edwin Colaco, former treasurer, Holy Trinity Province Karnataka. The sessions were titled as follows: Basics of Accounting, Generally accepted accounting Principles (GAAPS), Uniform way of accounting, New Direct Tax Code, F.C.R. and its legal implications and Laws applicable to NGO's and non -profit organisations. At the end of the day we had time for clarifications on different topics dealt during the seminar. Once again, Br. Vincent G. Furtado briefed the importance of such seminar for all of us in his concluding remarks. Br. Gerald Lobo thanked everyone who were instrumental towards the success of this seminar. The entire seminar was co-ordinated by Br. Joachim D'Souza, the Treasurer, Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka and Br. Arun Lobo.
